On Saturday, Egypt opened its first Museum of Arabic Calligraphy, in the seaside city of Alexandria. Part of the renovation project for the whole Museum of Fine Arts complex, the new museum has been in the works since 2009:

From the Project Architect:
The space, designed by Egypt based Archinos Architects, possesses a modest Classicist-style office building within the premises of the Alexandria Museum of Fine Art that has been re-designed and adapted to house a new Museum of Arabic Calligraphy.
The adaptation introduced a new glass curtain wall that combines Islamic motifs with modern design, and screens off the unchanged original facade. The design, implemented in 2010, included the scenario for a new exhibition displayed in interiors adapted for the purpose.
