For this project, Koffi and Diabate Architects created a pavilion that mediates in a holiday home situated at the seafront. With three main structures, a well-landscaped courtyard and a large swimming pool, the development incorporates a range of facilities including African and European cuisines, hotel suites, indoor sports and sauna, and servant spaces organised within an open plan.
As you approach the development from the side, the overhanging roofs, and glass balcony projecting into the ocean capture the eye. The scene of the pavilion sitting on a contrasting green, sloping landscape, overlooking the ocean is breathtaking.
The holiday retreat that fits well into the serene coastal environment offers an expensive place to lodge and creates a simple aesthetic out of steel, glass, stone and corrugated iron sheet roof structure.
While the simple materials create a quiet structure that does not impede on the land, the design affords great views not only of the inticately designed interiors, but of the immediate waterfront and surrounding landscape for the occupants within.
Because of the nature of the project, furnishings and lighting systems have been carefully selected to compliment the coastal landscape and accentuate interior and exterior spaces both in the day and night time.
Set within a hot and humid coastal climate, the lightness and openness of the structure not only serves to capture the cool coastal breeze, but allows the surrounding landscape to be seen from the interior spaces; the landscape is definitely part of the spectacle.
With careful planning and material selection, Koffi and Diabaté Architectes have not only succeeded in providing a holiday home but in creating a place where one can take in every aspect of the jewel that is the Ivory Coast.
